About the Breed Up Program in the U.S.
A breed-up program for Valais Blacknose sheep is a process where foundation ewes (often Scottish Blackface or other suitable breeds) are artificially inseminated with frozen semen from purebred Valais Blacknose rams to gradually increase the genetic percentage of Valais blood in successive generations, or "F" generations (F1, F2, F3, etc.). This multi-generational process, which requires expert veterinary involvement, is used in countries like the U.S. where live Valais Blacknose sheep cannot be imported. Each generation builds upon the last, with the goal of achieving a high percentage of Valais genetics (e.g., 97%+) to allow for full registration as a purebred.

All Saints "Leah" (DOB 3/22/24, Sire: Remarkable Albert) is in her second pregnancy and was a wonderful and attentive dam to a beautiful single ewe this past spring. She lambed out easily and is a big, sturdy girl with a sweet disposition. While she has more of a SBF look, her soft, curly wool is "very Valais" and her ewe lamb has all the correct Valais markings and features.
She is DNA-verified and registered with VBSS. She's easy to handle, walks well on a lead, and enjoys scritches on her sweet face. She's a great choice to jumpstart your breed-up program - we've been super impressed with her mothering skills!
She is due around January 5th, 2026.
